FAQ

How often should I hire a handyman?

It all depends upon the nature of your job. If you are looking for a quick fix, like installing a lightbulb, you may only need one handyman per week. However, if there is a lot of remodeling involved, you could probably use several handymen over the course of the project.

When is the right moment to hire a handyman

There isn't really a "right" time to hire a handyman. You should get started as soon you can. To save money, you could wait until after the holidays. However, you can always pick up your phone and call different handymen.

How do you find a trustworthy handyman to help me?

Before hiring a handyman, you should always verify references. Ask friends and family who have used the handyman in the past. Look online as there are many review sites that allow handymen to post their own reviews.

Do handyman services cost less than general contractors?

Yes! Sometimes a handyman is a cheaper option than a general contractor. This is especially true in cases where you have never hired a contractor to do the work. A handyman is able to speed up the process of completing a job because they are more skilled in certain tasks.

Why should I hire a handyman rather than doing it myself?

It's a great way to save time and money by hiring a handyman. Not only does this save you the hassle of hiring someone else, but it also saves you the headache of getting everything right the first time. You can also hire a handyman who has the right equipment and supplies to do the job right.

How do I replace a damaged window?

Replacing broken windows is one of the most common home improvement tasks. This involves fixing any damage caused by the glass. Repairs should take about 30 minutes in this situation. But if you do not know how to replace a broken pane of glass, then you risk causing further damage to the house. This article provides tips for how to replace broken windows.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

To remove the old glass, you must first lift out the screws holding the windowpane in place. Then undo the lock at the top center of the bottom section of the window frame. Next, lift the window slightly up so that it is no longer attached the sill plate (the steel bar at the floor). Next, remove any remaining screws using a pry instrument until they are loosen. Once the panes are removed, clean them thoroughly.

Second step: Clean the new glass

To remove dirt and grime from the glass' surface, use a paper towel or dry cloth. You can clean the glass with a spray bottle containing water and rubbing alcohol if there is any debris underneath.

Step 3: Install the new glass

Reattach the window panes into the frames. With the tip of a screwdriver, push down on the bottom edge of the outermost window pane. Gently push your pane back into its opening. Next, move on to the next pane and press it against the frame before attaching it. Continue inserting the panes till the window is complete. You can seal the spaces where the panes meet using a silicone caulk pistol.

Fourth step: Repair the damage

When installing the new glass, inspect the area around the hole to determine whether any additional repairs are needed. If the break occurred near the corner of the window, install two small pieces of wood along each side of the hole. These wooden blocks will provide strength for the window, as well as acting as spacers during the expansion or contraction of the weatherproofing.

The fifth step is to seal the area.

After the glass has been replaced, apply a bead of silicone caulking to the perimeter edges of the window frame. This will seal the glass to the wallboard. Silicone caulking is available at hardware stores as well as online. It is important to match the color of the walls with silicone caulking.

Let the caulking set overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. You can cause cracking in the caulking if it isn't left enough time.
