FAQ

Do I need to pay a handyman per hour or per project?

Personal preference will dictate the final price. Some people prefer to pay an hourly rate so that they know how much their handyman costs. Others prefer to pay for each completed project since they may have multiple jobs simultaneously. Either way is fine.

How long does a handyman take?

You will need to put in a lot of work over many years before you can become a handyman. It often starts by helping family members and friends, and then grows into a full-time job.

As you learn, you'll be able to master all of the necessary skills.

When is the best time of year to hire handymen?

There is no "right" time to hire handymen. It is important to start as soon as you can. It is possible to wait until after the holidays to save money. But you could also just pick up the phone and call around to different handymen.

How can I find a reliable handyman?

You should always check references before hiring a handyman. Ask friends and family who have used the handyman in the past. Also, look online--there are plenty of review sites where handymen post reviews of themselves.

How often should I hire a handyman?

It depends on the nature of your project. If you are looking for a quick fix, like installing a lightbulb, you may only need one handyman per week. You might have to call several handymen if the job involves a lot more remodeling.

What are the most common handyman repairs?

Handymen are often called upon to repair roofs and windows, doors, gutters or siding. They also can install hot water heaters, air conditioning units, electrical systems, sheds, decks, fences, sheds and other items. Handymen can help with home improvement and building projects that are not feasible for DIY homeowners.

Is it possible to have my faucets fixed by a handyman?

A handyman can probably handle minor repairs but will not have the training required to perform major projects, such as rewiring a house or installing custom cabinetry. However, a handyman is capable of doing minor home improvement projects.

How to replace a broken window

It is one of the most commonly performed home improvements. Repairing damage to glass within your home is the task. This repair will take only 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article will give you some helpful tips for replacing broken windows.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

To take out the old glass, first remove the screws that hold it in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window slightly up so that it is no longer attached the sill plate (the steel bar at the floor). Finally, use a pry tool to carefully loosen the remaining screws until they pop out of their holes. Clean the panes thoroughly after they are taken out.

Step 2: Clean the new glasses

Use a dry paper towel or cloth to remove any dirt from the glass. A spray bottle filled with water, rubbing alcohol and water can be used to clean debris stuck beneath the glass.

Third Step: Reinstall the replacement glass

Attach the window frames to the panes. Start by pushing down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Gently push down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Next, move on to the next pane and press it against the frame before attaching it. Continue inserting panes until all windows are assembled. Use a silicone caulk gun to seal the space where the panes meet.

Fourth step: Repair any damage.

Inspect the area around the hole when installing new glass to see if any repairs are required. Two small pieces of wood should be placed along the edges of each hole if the crack is near the corner. These wooden blocks will add strength to the window while also acting as spacers to keep the glass in place during the expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing material.

Fifth Step: Seal the repaired area

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will create a good seal between the glass and the surrounding wallboard. Silicone caulking can be purchased at hardware stores and online. You should choose a color to match the wall paint.

Finally, let the caulking cure overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. You can cause cracking in the caulking if it isn't left enough time.
